New Religions Law not related to events in Aktobe and Atyrau: Head of Religions Agency

Head of the Agency for Religions does not relate adoption of the law On religious activities and religious institutions to the events in Aktobe and Atyrau oblasts, Tengrinews.kz reports. “It is not related to the latest events in Aktobe and Atyrau oblasts. This law was developed is line with the concept of development of the civil society in 2006-2011. This area was regulated by the law of adopted back in 1992. Starting from 2002, seven attempts have been made to introduce amendments into the law. It is not true that the law is adopted in a rush and is related to certain events,” Kairat Lama Sharif said after the draft law was approved by Kazakhstan Majilis (lower chamber of Parliament) on September 21.
