Kazakhstan has launched a pilot project to introduce prior notification of customs authorities about goods imported to the territory of the Customs Union by rail, Tengrinews reports citing IA Novosti-Kazakhstan.
The Customs Union includes Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the new system will be tested at selected customs clearance points during the whole summer period.
Currently, the documents are checked upon arrival of goods to the customs posts.
“Sometimes this takes several hours, and all this time the freight has to wait. With the new prior notification system in place, the carrier will need to submit information about the incoming goods to the customs authorities no less than two hours before their actual arrival to the customs post. This will improve the quality and reduce the time of inspection of documents by the customs authorities and speed up the goods delivery," Chairman of the Ministry's Committee for Transport and Routes Yerkin Meyrbekov said.
The procedure will become mandatory starting from October 1, 2014 in line with the Decision #196 of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission as of September 17, 2013.
