On March 6 Kazakhstan government will review Affordable Housing 2020 program, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to First Deputy Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov. “You know that in his State-of-the-Union address the President said that by 2015 we should have built state housing with the total floor area of about 1 million square meters, it will of course require large investments and new mechanisms. New housing is planned to be built with the help of local executive bodies and Zhilstroisberbank, another priority is housing for socially disadvantaged groups of the society, and the third new program – rental housing for young people with a lease option agreement,” Akhmetov announced during his speech at the meeting of Nur Otan parliamentary party. The government has overall developed 6 directions for implementing the Affordable Housing-2020 program. The program itself will be launched in 2013. A strategy known as Turkish Experience will be used as the main mechanism of pilot project in Astana. The key feature of the Turkish model is: affordable housing for the large segments of the society in Turkey. The housing program also served to create new employment opportunities: activate trade, smaller industrial and transportation sectors, thereby reviving the local economy of the project sites.
