Minster of Healthcare is going to make Kazakhstan citizens to take care of their own health. Relevant amendments to the Code of Population’s Health and Healthcare System are being prepared by the state authorities, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Poll data showed that a major part of our population isn’t engaged in any sports activities. About four million of Kazakhstan people smoke and 35% of population are overweighed. However many respondents are sure that they look after their health,” Salidat Kairbekova, the Minister of Healthcare said. She has reminded the words of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev that Kazakhstan people should realize that it is unprofitable to get ill. "Neglected diseases not only lead to the patient’s life quality deterioration. Breast cancer treatment will stand in 110-120 thousand tenge ($750-810) for the budget when treated at an early stage. But its treatment at an advanced stage costs 27 million tenge ($182 430) to the budget,” Kairbekova cited as an example. “We consider it being vital to introduce the relevant amendments into the legal acts on healthcare and to the Code of Population’s Health and Healthcare System. We are working on proposal for the healthcare system's further development. We are considering arrangements for introducing joint liability of the population for their own health and making medical insurance more advanced. This proposal will be ready by July 1, 2012. It is essential to define Minister’s, Akim’s (Governor’s), employer’s and citizen’s responsibilities towards healthcare. It will be difficult to develop a culture of solicitous attitude to health without such legal provisions,” the Minister said.
