Tengrinews.kz – Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek addressed residents of the capital on the occasion of the entry into force of the new version of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This was reported by the capital’s akimat.

In his address, the head of the city noted that the updated Basic Law has become the foundation for the country’s further development, the strengthening of democratic institutions and the improvement of citizens’ quality of life.

“The new Constitution is the basis for Kazakhstan’s further development. Today, its new version has officially entered into force,” Zhenis Kassymbek said.

According to him, this is not merely an update of the Basic Law, but a new stage in the country’s development, strengthening democratic institutions, guarantees of citizens’ rights and freedoms, and creating a solid foundation for building a just state.

“At the initiative of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, large-scale political reforms are being consistently implemented in the country. The updated Constitution has become the foundation of these transformations, defining the strategic course for the country’s further development, where the highest value is the individual, their life, rights and freedoms,” the mayor of the capital emphasized.

In his opinion, this day is also of special importance for the capital. The Constitution establishes that the status of Astana is determined by constitutional law.

“This emphasizes the special role of the capital as Kazakhstan’s political, administrative and public center. The status of the capital is, above all, a great responsibility. Astana has become a platform for implementing the most important state initiatives and reforms. Today, large-scale projects are being carried out here, modern infrastructure is developing, new public spaces are being created, and the transport system and social sphere are being improved. All this raises the quality of life for residents and strengthens the capital’s role as a benchmark for all regions,” the mayor of Astana added.

He also stressed that the Constitution provides for a large-scale transformation of the public administration system.

“The transformations affect the political system, the activities of state bodies, citizens’ rights and freedoms, the economy, as well as the fundamental principles of the state structure,” Zhenis Kassymbek said.

The values enshrined in the Constitution are already being reflected in everyday life, the mayor said. According to him, the “Taza Kazakhstan” initiative is fostering an environmental culture and a responsible attitude toward the environment, while the “Law and Order” concept contributes to strengthening legal culture, ensuring public safety and affirming the rule of law.

“A just society, a strong state, a clean environment and respect for the law are not merely principles of the Basic Law. They are guidelines that define our common future. I am confident that by following the course of reforms initiated by the Head of State and by uniting our efforts, we will continue to develop Astana and build a strong, modern and prosperous Kazakhstan,” the mayor concluded.
