Tengrinews.kz - Akmola region’s akim (governor) Marat Akhmetzhanov provided details about the construction of a combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Kokshetau, addressing why the project was awarded to a Russian company.

During a briefing, Akhmetzhanov stated that the project is in an "active development phase," with the plant's location already selected.

"The decision on the supplier has been made in favor of a Russian company. It should be noted that they are subsidized by their government at a 7 percent interest rate. No other companies offer similar subsidies at 7 percent for 20 years. Additionally, they have significant technological expertise in this field. All stages of approval have been completed. The active construction phase of the CHP plant will begin this summer," Akhmetzhanov explained.

In November last year, Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin announced plans for three CHP projects in Kazakhstan with Russian participation. In January this year, preliminary costs for the three new plants were disclosed.
