Tengrinews.kz — Speaking at a session of the National Kurultai, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev explained where and how it is appropriate to use Kazakhstan’s national flag, emphasizing the importance of treating state symbols with respect.

“Patriotism is, of course, love for one’s homeland,” the President said. “But such feelings mean little without civic responsibility and a genuine desire to be useful to the country.”

Tokayev noted that public discussion has recently intensified around when and where the national flag may be displayed.

“These procedures are regulated by specific rules and standards. When using state symbols, careless or frivolous attitudes are unacceptable. It is important to follow not only the letter of the law, but also its spirit,” he stressed.

The President added that expressions of patriotism should be encouraged through respectful, thoughtful, and appropriate use of national symbols.

“I am especially pleased to see our blue flag flying over homes, cars, city streets, and particularly at international sporting events,” Tokayev said. “Behind the recognition of our flag stand the achievements of athletes, the work of scientists, the success of entrepreneurs, and the triumphs of musicians. These accomplishments belong to the entire nation and strengthen Kazakhstan’s standing in the world. We must support patriotism that comes from the heart and is reflected in real actions — care for our land and readiness to serve society.”

The fifth session of the National Kurultai is currently taking place in Kyzylorda, as announced on January 12. According to Presidential Press Secretary Ruslan Zheldibay, President Tokayev is expected to deliver a speech outlining Kazakhstan’s key priorities for future development and addressing pressing social issues.
