Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has released its preliminary forecast for the upcoming winter in Kazakhstan. According to meteorologists, the winter of 2025–2026 will be moderately warm, though residents should expect sudden temperature changes, snowstorms, and icy conditions.

November: First snowstorms and sharp temperature swings

In November, most of Kazakhstan will see precipitation mainly as snow, while southern and southwestern regions may experience rain mixed with snow. Gusty winds, snowstorms, ice, and fog are expected — especially in northern, central, and eastern areas.

Meteorologists warn of noticeable temperature fluctuations:

  • In the north, center, and east: nighttime lows from –7°C to +5°C, daytime highs from +5°C to +10°C.
  • By the end of the month, colder weather will set in — down to –15…–20°C at night and –10…–15°C during the day.

In the south and southwest: temperatures will range from –12°C to +7°C at night, and +6°C to +18°C during the day.

By late November, frosts down to –15°C are possible.

The average monthly temperature is expected to be 1°C above normal, while precipitation will remain near the seasonal norm.

December: Close to average winter weather

In December, air temperatures across most of Kazakhstan will be near normal, occasionally 1°C higher — particularly in northwestern regions.

The northeast, however, may be slightly colder than usual.

Precipitation will generally remain within normal limits, and in central and eastern areas, it may be below average.

January: Typical winter frosts

In January, forecasters expect temperatures around the climatic norm, with the eastern regions about 1°C colder.

Precipitation will also stay near average, though in mountainous areas of the south and southeast, snowfall may be heavier than usual.

February and March: Warmer and snowier

February is predicted to be the mildest month of winter, with air temperatures 1–2°C above normal and average precipitation levels across the country.

March will bring warmer-than-usual weather — about 1°C above average.

Mountainous areas in the south and southeast will receive more snow than usual, while Mangystau Region may see less precipitation.

“According to preliminary estimates, the upcoming winter in Kazakhstan will be moderately warm, with occasional sharp temperature changes. On some days, heavy snowfalls, blizzards, and icy conditions are expected,” Kazhydromet said.
