Tengrinews.kz – What will the weather be like in Astana and Almaty in February? Kazhydromet forecasters have presented a consultative outlook for the last month of winter.

Astana

The average monthly temperature in February in the capital is expected to be around minus 12.5 degrees, which is 1.1 degrees above normal.

In the first ten-day period, temperatures at night may fluctuate from minus 8–13 to minus 15–20 degrees, and during the day from minus 2–7 to minus 7–12 degrees. A drop in temperature is expected at the very end of this period.

In the second ten-day period, forecasters predict a rise in nighttime temperatures from minus 15–20 to minus 8–13 degrees, and daytime temperatures from minus 7–12 to minus 2–7 degrees. Then temperatures will drop again to minus 13–18 at night and minus 8–13 during the day. It is expected to rise again toward the end of the period.

In the third ten-day period, nighttime temperatures may decrease from minus 3–8 to minus 8–13 degrees, and daytime temperatures from plus 1–6 to minus 2–7 degrees.

Monthly precipitation is expected to be around normal (the norm is 17 millimeters).

“Snow is forecast at the beginning and end of the first ten-day period, and frequently in the second and third ten-day periods of the month. Blowing snow and winds of 15–20 meters per second are expected throughout the month. Black ice is likely in the middle of the third ten-day period. Fog is possible at the beginning and end of the first, at the end of the second, and at the beginning and end of the third ten-day period,” the forecasters said.

Almaty

The average monthly temperature is expected to be around minus 1.4 degrees, which is 1 degree above normal.

In the first ten-day period, nighttime temperatures are expected to drop from 0 and minus 5 to minus 5–10 degrees, and daytime temperatures from minus 1 – plus 4 to minus 1–6 degrees. Then temperatures will rise to minus 3–8 at night and minus 2 – plus 3 degrees during the day. At the very end of the period, temperatures will drop again.

In the second ten-day period, nighttime temperatures are forecast to fluctuate from minus 5–10 to minus 3 – plus 2 degrees, and daytime temperatures from minus 1–6 to plus 1–6 degrees. Then a further warming is expected: at night to 0 – minus 5, and during the day to plus 2–7 degrees.

In the third ten-day period, temperatures are expected to rise further: at night to 0 – minus 5 degrees and during the day to plus 7–12 degrees.

Monthly precipitation is expected to be above normal (the norm is 43 millimeters).

“Precipitation (rain, wet snow) is expected at the end of the first and third ten-day periods. Snow is expected at the beginning and middle of the second ten-day period. Fog is likely at the beginning and end of the first and frequently in the second ten-day period. Wind will be 3–8 meters per second, with gusts up to 12 meters per second in the middle of the first, at the beginning and middle of the second, and at the end of the third ten-day period,” Kazhydromet reported.
