Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan continues efforts to identify and seize weapons stolen during the January unrest. Since the beginning of September, police have confiscated around 50 weapons, over 500 rounds of ammunition, and six explosive devices. Authorities have also discovered 12 hidden caches of weapons and ammunition, according to Polisia.kz.
Weapons stolen during "Qantar" recovered
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, six of the seized weapons were stolen during the January 2022 events, along with stolen police equipment. The recovered arsenal includes an assault rifle, a pistol, two rifled carbines, and two smoothbore shotguns. Police also returned service body armor and helmets.
Fifteen weapons were voluntarily handed in by residents.
Inspections of registered gun owners
As part of the ongoing "Uchastok" (Precinct) operation, over 21,000 civilian gun owners were inspected. More than 400 were held administratively liable for violations.
Arrests in Almaty region
On September 5, residents of the Almaty region were arrested after being found in possession of a special firearm, also reported as stolen during the January unrest in Almaty.
