Unified QR code to officially launch in Kazakhstan on July 19: what will change for bank customers
Tengrinews.kz – A unified QR code will officially begin operating in Kazakhstan on July 19. Kazakhstanis will now be able to pay for goods and services through any bank’s app at any retail outlet connected to the system. National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov shared the details.
According to the head of the National Bank, the launch of the unified QR code is one of the most significant projects in the field of digital payments.
“This is something that truly concerns each of us as consumers: we make payments every day. Officially, the unified QR code comes into effect on July 19. Since this date falls on a Sunday, we decided to demonstrate its functionality today,” Suleimenov said at a briefing.
He noted that after the launch, Kazakhstanis will be able to pay for goods and services without obstacles through their bank’s mobile app, regardless of which bank the entrepreneur uses.
“Customers will be able to independently and seamlessly pay for goods and services through their bank’s app at any retail outlet and from any entrepreneur.”
As Timur Suleimenov explained, preparation for the project took a long time and required serious technical work from second-tier banks.
“Each bank developed its own services, and then we proposed combining them into one. It was necessary to ensure system compatibility, mutual readability and, of course, data security,” he explained.
The head of the National Bank thanked second-tier banks, the National Payment Corporation and the National Bank’s digital division for taking part in the implementation of the project.
In his view, the creation of a national digital financial infrastructure will make an important contribution to the development of a modern digital state.
“I believe that the national digital financial infrastructure is a significant foundation and an important contribution to building the modern digital state the President has spoken about,” Suleimenov concluded.
Launch of the unified QR code
On June 18, National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov announced that the unified interbank QR payment system would begin operating on July 19, 2026. At the time, he noted that the launch had become possible after the necessary legislative framework was created and banks completed technical preparations.
Earlier, the National Bank also explained that the unified QR code would allow customers to pay for purchases through any bank’s app, while entrepreneurs would be able to accept such payments through a unified infrastructure without needing to use several different solutions.
