Tengrinews.kz – The UN Secretary-General will visit Kazakhstan at the invitation of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Akorda reports.
On August 3, at the invitation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will pay an official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In Almaty, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Antonio Guterres will hold talks and jointly visit the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan.
Earlier, in March this year, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. During the call, they discussed current issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Nations.
At that time, the President highlighted the importance of the unanimous adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution on establishing a regional center for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty. The two leaders also discussed further steps toward institutionalizing the regional center.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highly praised Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping efforts and its contribution to strengthening global security and sustainable development.
It should be noted that in the summer of 2024, the UN Secretary-General also visited Almaty, where he attended the UN office and participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit held in Astana.
