Tengrinews.kz - A group of tourists lost their way in the mountains of the Karkaraly district in the Karaganda region, prompting a rescue operation that utilized a drone.

The press service of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations reported on the details.

According to the ministry, four men set off toward the Shaitankol (“devil's lake” in Kazakh) area on Saturday afternoon. As night fell, they decided to turn back before reaching their destination but became disoriented. They managed to climb a mountain and contact emergency services for help.

"Rescuers quickly arrived at the location using the provided coordinates. With the help of a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera and night vision, they located the lost tourists four kilometers from the 'Berloga' recreation area," the statement read.

The rescued individuals did not require medical assistance, the ministry added.

Previously, a couple from Latvia was found lost in the mountains of the Zhetysu region.
