Tokayev: “To be strong as a state, the regions must be strong“

Tengrinews.kz - During a trip to the Zhetysu region, the Head of State visited the "Taldykorgan" industrial zone, according to a statement from Akorda.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's working trip to the region began with a visit to an industrial battery plant located in the "Taldykorgan" industrial zone.

"The project, worth 8.5 billion tenge, was renovated and modernized last year. Electrical equipment was installed with budget funds, and sewerage and gas supply lines were installed. The enterprise, with an area of 14.3 hectares, was launched on December 6 this year.
The founder and director of the plant, Serikbay Azhmagambetov, told the President about industrial batteries that are used in the oil and gas, mining, telecommunications, and railway industries, as well as as a source of uninterruptible power in the ‘green’ energy sector," the Akorda statement said.

As reported to the Head of State, when reaching full capacity, the enterprise plans to produce 210 thousand batteries per year, creating up to 180 jobs. 60% of the manufactured products will be exported to the CIS and Baltic countries, and 40% will be supplied to the domestic market. It is expected that in the first year after launch, the plant will pay over 500 million tenge in taxes to the budget.

In a conversation with the workforce, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the important role of supporting the production sector.

"For the state to be strong, our regions must first of all be strong. We consider it important to transform Kazakhstan into a country with a developed industry. Much attention is paid to the Zhetysu region, which is of strategic importance," the President said.

Then the Head of State held a meeting with the heads of enterprises. He called support for domestic business one of the main directions of state policy.

Akim (governor) of the region Beibit Isabaev reported to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the socio-economic development of the region. According to him, the gross regional product in the first half of the year amounted to 781 billion tenge with an increase of 6.2%. By the end of the year, this figure will reach 7.1%. The short-term economic indicator for ten months amounted to 112.8%.

"Positive dynamics are observed in agriculture. Significant growth in volumes was noted in industrial production, trade, and construction. This year, 247.6 thousand square meters of housing were commissioned in the region. This is 4.1% more than last year. The head of state was also informed about the work to attract new investors and increase the investment attractiveness of the region," the press service of Akorda noted.

According to official data, since the beginning of the year, 327.1 billion tenge of investments have been attracted, with an increase of 1.3 times. At the same time, private investments have increased by 1.6 times. Beibit Isabaev noted that an investment portfolio of 190 projects worth 3.5 trillion tenge has been formed for 2024-2030, which will create more than 11.8 thousand jobs. This year, 48 projects worth 54.9 billion tenge are being implemented.

In addition, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was provided with information on the development of industry in Zhetysu. To date, 549 enterprises have been registered, and more than 30 thousand people have been employed. Over the ten months of this year, the volume of industrial production increased by 3.9 percent.

"Having highly appreciated the new initiatives, the President instructed to maintain the pace of socio-economic development of the region and continue the relevant work," the Akorda statement said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in the Zhetysu region on December 12. He will visit a number of industrial and social facilities in the region.
