Tokayev signs decree to establish new agency

Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a decree "On further improvement of the public administration system of the Republic of Kazakhstan," establishing the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, according to a statement from Akorda.

The decree has been published on Akorda’s official website.

"To establish the Agency for Atomic Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter – the Agency) as a state body directly subordinate and accountable to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the transfer of functions and powers of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the areas of subsoil use related to uranium mining, the use of atomic energy, ensuring radiation safety for the population, and the creation and operation of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Safety Zone," the decree states.

The agency has been designated as the legal successor to the rights and obligations of the Ministry of Energy within the scope of the transferred functions and powers.

The Presidential Administration, together with the head of the agency, has been instructed to submit drafts of the agency’s regulations and structure for the president’s approval. In collaboration with the government, they must also propose the redistribution of staffing from the Ministry of Energy and its subordinate organizations to the agency and take other necessary measures to implement the decree.

The government has been tasked with ensuring the redistribution of staffing from the Ministry of Energy and its relevant subordinate organizations.

Control over the implementation of the decree is assigned to the Presidential Administration.
