Tengrinews.kz – Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent a congratulatory telegram to President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, citing Akorda’s press service.
Tokayev congratulated Japarov and the brotherly people of Kyrgyzstan on the country’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028.
“This significant event, of historic importance both for the Kyrgyz Republic and for all of Central Asia, has become recognition of Kyrgyzstan’s high international authority and the result of the constructive and forward-looking foreign policy pursued under the leadership of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic,” the congratulatory message said.
Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan had consistently supported Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy and was ready to continue providing comprehensive support in fulfilling this responsible mission.
The Kazakh leader wished Kyrgyzstan successful and productive work in the UN Security Council.
Kyrgyzstan has been elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the first time in its history. The vote took place on June 3 at a meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to the 24.kg agency.
Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy was supported by 142 states. The Philippines, which also competed for the seat on the Security Council, received 49 votes. Thus, official Bishkek received the right to take a seat as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2028.
The UN Security Council consists of 15 states. Five of them are permanent members with veto power, while another ten are elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms.
