Tengrinews.kz – Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Abdulla Al Mandous, President of the UN World Meteorological Organization and Director General of the UAE National Center of Meteorology, citing Akorda.
During the meeting, the President of Kazakhstan noted the key role of the World Meteorological Organization, a specialized UN agency, in strengthening global cooperation in the areas of climate, weather, water resources and disaster risk reduction.
“The parties paid special attention to climate agenda issues of strategic importance for Kazakhstan. In particular, they emphasized the importance of developing early warning systems, modernizing meteorological infrastructure and expanding the exchange of scientific data. The Head of State confirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with the UAE National Center of Meteorology,” Akorda’s press service noted.
During the conversation, the importance of addressing water security and water resource management issues at the regional and global levels was emphasized. In this context, the importance of Kazakhstan’s initiative to establish an International Water Organization under the auspices of the UN was noted.
In Turkestan Region, a project on artificial precipitation enhancement is being implemented jointly with the UAE National Center of Meteorology to increase reservoir levels and provide agricultural areas with water resources. The full-scale launch of the project is scheduled for May 17, 2026.
