Tengrinews.kz – At the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed the creation of an Interfaith Commission on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence Development.
“I propose establishing an interfaith commission on the ethics of AI development, which would work on a universal code of principles for the responsible use of neural networks and other breakthrough technologies. We're talking about a kind of ‘Commandments for Algorithms’ — emphasizing respect for human dignity, the inadmissibility of discrimination, and oversight over life-changing decisions,” said Tokayev.
According to the President, artificial intelligence, big data, bioengineering, and other revolutionary innovations are dramatically transforming all areas of human life. However, ethical norms are failing to keep pace with this rapid technological progress.
This gives rise to new challenges such as:
- Protecting freedom of choice;
- Ensuring privacy and data protection;
- Promoting digital equality;
- Ensuring the safe use of artificial intelligence and many other ethical dilemmas.
“I am convinced that religious leaders, as custodians of moral values and ideals, must take part in the dialogue about the digital future of humanity. Every technology must serve the benefit of humanity. To achieve this, we need a continuous dialogue between spiritual leaders, scientists, and techno-engineers,” Tokayev emphasized.
He added that Kazakhstan sees AI development as a major opportunity for dynamic national progress but is also fully aware of the importance of ethical compliance and is therefore open to broad cooperation in this field.
At the congress, which is currently taking place in Astana, the President also warned of the growing risk of nuclear conflict in the world.
In addition, he drew attention to the alarming confrontation between right-wing conservative and liberal ideologies, which is contributing to political destabilization in several countries.
