Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ordered tougher penalties for attacks involving physical force and acts of cruelty against medical workers.

According to presidential adviser and press secretary Ruslan Zheldibai, the Head of State supports proposals from members of Parliament, the medical community, and active citizens to amend national legislation in order to increase penalties for such assaults.

It was noted that incidents of this nature, which harm the health and well-being of medical workers, must be firmly suppressed through legal measures in accordance with the principle of “Law and Order.”

“The President instructed the government to develop appropriate legislative amendments, which will be submitted to Parliament for discussion with the participation of civil society representatives,” the statement reads.

Earlier, in Karaganda, a patient attacked a doctor at a private clinic. The incident occurred inside the medical facility and was caught on video, which quickly spread on social media.

Another attack on a doctor occurred in Kostanay, where a surgeon at a regional hospital was brutally beaten. The doctor lost consciousness after being struck by a patient who refused to wait his turn.

The suspect in the attack on the doctor has been arrested for two months. For causing serious harm to health, he faces a sentence of 3 to 8 years in prison.

Later, Healthcare Minister Akmaral Alnazarova stated that legislative changes to toughen liability for attacks on medical workers will be submitted to Parliament in September.
