Tengrinews.kz - The use of transboundary water resources is becoming a key factor for stability and sustainable development in the region. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made this statement following negotiations in Bishkek, citing Akorda.

The president identified strengthening regional integration as one of the pressing issues. The parties agreed to hold the next meeting of the Interregional Forum in the near future.

During the talks, the potential for cooperation in the fields of digitalization and e-government was also discussed. An agreement was reached on sharing experience and developing communications in the digital economy.

The head of state also specifically addressed coordination in the water and energy sector.

“The effective use of transboundary water resources is becoming a key factor for stability and sustainable development in the region. In this regard, we consider it expedient to continue cooperation in this direction. We are ready to strictly comply with all agreements and make efforts to implement joint projects of strategic importance,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

On August 22, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sadyr Japarov took part in the meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The agenda of the Supreme Interstate Council included cooperation in trade and economy, transport and transit, water and energy, as well as cultural and humanitarian fields.

Prior to the meeting, an official welcoming ceremony for Tokayev was held at the Yntymak Ordo residence in Bishkek.

Tokayev’s official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic began with a visit to the Ata-Beyit National Historical and Memorial Complex.

The Head of State laid flowers at the monument to the victims of the tragic events of 1916, located on the territory of the memorial complex, and honored the memory of the outstanding Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov.
