Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about training a new generation of teachers in Kazakhstan, citing Akorda.

As the President noted at the August conference, this year more than 13,000 grants have been allocated for teaching specialties.

“Training a new generation of teachers is a very important task. The stipend for pedagogy students has doubled over the past five years and will reach 84,000 tenge starting from the new academic year. Thanks to these measures, young people’s interest in the teaching profession is growing,” Tokayev said.

Last year, around 1,800 holders of the Altyn Belgi distinction enrolled in teaching programs, and this year their number exceeded 2,000—almost 23% of all holders of this award.

“All this indicates that the prestige of the teaching profession in society is increasing. We have also taken other measures to improve teachers’ qualifications and enhance the quality of education. Good results have been achieved. This year, our schoolchildren won 27 medals at the world’s seven most prestigious subject Olympiads, as well as about 1,000 medals at other international competitions. This is undoubtedly the result of quality knowledge and hard work by our children, as well as the dedicated work of teachers,” the President said.

Tokayev stressed that the work should not stop there—there is more ahead. Kazakhstan, he said, must continue to improve the quality of education. Science, technology, and knowledge are changing rapidly, and knowledge acquired yesterday may become outdated tomorrow, making teacher qualifications crucial.

“We cannot limit ourselves to knowledge gained at higher educational institutions. To nurture truly progressive students, teachers must constantly learn and improve themselves. It is important to master techniques that spark children’s desire for knowledge. We see that in developed countries, education is the foundation and driving force of the economy. We need to study their experience, though we should not blindly copy foreign models. It is important to adapt best practices to our realities,” Tokayev said.

Any changes in educational standards, methods, and textbooks must undergo thorough examination. In education, there is no room for error, as the consequences can be very serious.
