Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Witold Bańka, President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Welcoming the guest, President Tokayev emphasized the important role of WADA as a key institution in the global fight against doping in sports. He noted that Witold Bańka’s visit to Astana marks a significant step toward strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and WADA.
The Head of State praised the agency’s firm stance on combating systemic violations and maintaining unified standards of fair play. He added that this is crucial not only for athletes but also for millions of fans around the world.
Currently, Kazakhstan’s Anti-Doping Laboratory, operating under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, is the only such facility in Central Asia. It also hosts the Regional Anti-Doping Organization, which includes Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Mongolia, and Afghanistan.
For his part, Witold Bańka expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan’s support of WADA’s initiatives and commended the high level of cooperation with national sports authorities.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to developing long-term cooperation and strengthening Kazakhstan’s status as a reliable and responsible partner of the World Anti-Doping Agency.
For his contribution to the development of sports in Kazakhstan, President Tokayev awarded Witold Bańka the Order of “Dostyk” (Friendship) II degree.
