Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Russia’s Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, according to a statement from Akorda.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia, as well as regional security issues.
"I believe your visit is highly significant for deepening cooperation between our countries, which continues to progress. President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Kazakhstan last November played a crucial role in strengthening ties. Our economic interaction is also developing successfully, with agreements on 171 projects—over 50 of which are in the final stages of implementation. Russia remains one of the key investors in Kazakhstan’s economy. I also think that cooperation between our law enforcement and defense agencies is advancing well. Your visit presents a great opportunity to review our ongoing collaboration and discuss new areas of partnership," Tokayev stated.
The president also conveyed his greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sergei Shoigu thanked Tokayev for the opportunity to meet and discuss pressing regional security issues.
"The relations between our brotherly nations and countries have always remained at a high level. The volume of trade and joint projects is impressive. Our cooperation extends beyond bilateral relations—we actively engage within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The projects initiated by Kazakhstan are developing successfully," Shoigu said.
The two officials also exchanged views on enhancing security cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia.
Earlier, Tokayev met with Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, who arrived in Astana on an official visit.
