Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Talgat Aldybergenov, the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), to discuss the company’s performance and infrastructure plans.

During the meeting, Aldybergenov reported that operational freight turnover rose by 8.6 percent in the first half of 2025. Transit volumes reached 14.6 million tons, reflecting growth in international cargo movement through Kazakhstan.

The President was briefed on progress in developing the Trans-Kazakhstan railway corridor, which includes the construction of more than 1,700 kilometers of new rail lines and the modernization of 3,000 kilometers of existing tracks. Key projects include the completion of the second Dostyk–Moyynty track and the Almaty bypass line this year. Construction has also started on the Bakhty–Ayagoz and Kyzylzhar–Moyynty routes, while work continues on the Darbaza–Maktaaral corridor.

KTZ is also expanding its terminal network abroad. Kazakhstan now has a presence in strategic cargo hubs across China, Russia, Hungary, Belarus, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, which is expected to enhance logistics and boost the efficiency of East–West and North–South transport corridors.

Digitalization was another key focus of the discussion. In partnership with global tech leaders, KTZ is working to improve railway safety and service quality. According to the report, automation of transit declarations along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) has increased transparency and significantly reduced processing times — from 8 hours to just 30 minutes.

President Tokayev underscored the importance of further modernizing Kazakhstan’s transport infrastructure and emphasized KTZ’s critical role in enhancing the country’s transit potential and economic development.

Talgat Aldybergenov was appointed head of KTZ on July 3, 2025, after serving as the company’s Deputy Chairman.
