Tengrinews.kz – Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais, according to Akorda.

The President of Kazakhstan and the OPEC Secretary General discussed the current state of the global oil market and pressing issues of cooperation.

The Head of State praised OPEC’s efforts aimed at ensuring stability and predictability in the global oil market.

“Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that he views Haitham Al Ghais’s visit as an important step in developing a constructive dialogue between Kazakhstan and OPEC. The President emphasized that Kazakhstan supports the OPEC+ decision to gradually increase oil production, while giving priority to protecting national interests,” Akorda reported.

The parties also discussed joint measures to strengthen the resilience of the region’s energy system.

They highlighted the importance of balancing the interests of oil-producing countries and hydrocarbon-importing nations.

Note: OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais arrived in Astana to participate as a speaker at the Kazenergy Association Forum.

Earlier, it was reported that eight OPEC+ countries — including Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, UAE, Kuwait, Algeria, and Oman — will begin gradually increasing oil production by 411,000 barrels per day starting in July 2025.

This decision is based on positive economic outlooks and low oil inventories. The countries confirmed a flexible approach: if needed, the production increase may be paused or reversed.
