Tengrinews.kz – The Head of State congratulated Gennady Golovkin on being elected president of the International World Boxing Federation, citing Akorda.
“This event is evidence of the recognition of Gennady Golovkin’s outstanding achievements, who has become the first representative of Kazakhstan to head an international federation in an Olympic sport,” wrote Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Today in Rome, the legendary Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin was elected president of the international federation World Boxing.
World Boxing is an international sports organization established in 2023 after the International Olympic Committee revoked the recognition status of the IBA (formerly AIBA) due to several issues, including lack of financial transparency and corruption.
World Boxing now oversees amateur boxing, including Olympic boxing. In September 2024, Golovkin became chairman of the organization’s Olympic commission, making significant efforts for many national federations to recognize it and for boxing to remain in the program of the 2028 Summer Olympics.
