Tengrinews.kz – The Head of State has arrived at the Samarkand Congress Center to participate in the European Union – Central Asia summit and the international conference Central Asia in the face of global climate threats, according to a statement from Akorda.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was welcomed by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The Head of State arrived in Uzbekistan on Thursday to take part in the Central Asia – European Union summit and the international climate conference.
In Samarkand, the Kazakh leader held talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Charles Michel. Tokayev also met with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso.
As a reminder, the European Union is Kazakhstan’s largest trading partner and investor. The EU accounts for over 40% of total foreign direct investment in the country. In 2024, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and EU member states reached approximately $50 billion (representing 80% of the EU’s trade with Central Asian countries).
