Tengrinews.kz - A phone conversation took place between the presidents of Kazakhstan and Belarus, according to the Akorda press service.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Alexander Lukashenko on his victory in the presidential elections of the Republic of Belarus.

"The interlocutors discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda, as well as cooperation within regional and international organizations," the statement said.

On Sunday, January 26, Belarus held its presidential elections. The incumbent head of state, Alexander Lukashenko, was re-elected for a new, seventh term.

According to exit polls, Alexander Lukashenko received 87.6 percent of the vote.

Five candidates were registered for the 2025 elections:

  • Alexander Lukashenko (70) – the first and, so far, the only president of Belarus (in office since July 20, 1994). He previously participated in the presidential elections of 1994, 2001, 2006, 2010, 2015, and 2020. After the 2020 vote, he stated that he would not run for office again.
  • Oleg Gaidukevich (47) – a deputy of the House of Representatives (the lower house of parliament) and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), considered the largest party in Belarus.
  • Anna Kanopatskaya (48) – a businesswoman and former deputy of the House of Representatives (2016–2019), who ran in the 2020 presidential elections, receiving 1.68 percent (97,400) of the vote, according to the Central Election Commission.
  • Sergey Syrankov (41) – First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party since May 2024 and a former deputy of the House of Representatives.
  • Alexander Khizhnyak (46) – Chairman of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice since 2022, and a deputy of the Minsk City Council since 2018.

The last presidential elections in Belarus took place in 2020, as the president is elected for a five-year term by direct vote. Following that election, Alexander Lukashenko was re-elected as president.

Previously, Tokayev congratulated Zoran Milanovic on his re-election as President of the Republic of Croatia.
