Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan plans to build three small hydroelectric power plants. The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is currently preparing the design and cost estimate documentation.
According to the ministry, the new hydropower plants are planned for the Samarkand Reservoir in the Karaganda Region, the Kargaly Reservoir in the Aktobe Region, and the Karakol Reservoir in the Abai Region. All three projects are currently undergoing state expert review.
“It is also planned to prepare design and cost estimate documentation for another five facilities, three of them with the involvement of private investors,” the ministry said.
The work is being carried out as part of the roadmap adopted in September last year for the development of small hydropower plants at the hydraulic structures of Kazvodkhoz. According to the ministry, 29 sites suitable for installing small hydropower plants have been selected so far.
“The total volume of electricity generation at the hydraulic structures of RSE Kazvodkhoz will amount to 30 MW per year,” said Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Erbolat Ibraikhanov.
Ibraikhanov added that the enterprise already has three small hydropower plants on its balance sheet. They are located at the Sergeyevka hydraulic complex in the North Kazakhstan Region, the Intumak Reservoir in the Karaganda Region, and the Dostyk hydraulic complex on the Khorgos River.
