Tengrinews.kz - An Almaty resident received a package from the U.S. and ended up facing a criminal case, according to Polisia.kz.
Police in Almaty intercepted a drug-containing package from abroad. The parcel was addressed to a 30-year-old local resident. It contained packages of marijuana and drug-infused gummies sent from the United States.
During a search at the suspect’s residence, officers seized 27 bundles of a green plant-based substance with a distinctive odor. A forensic chemical examination has been ordered.
"Operational measures will determine the supply channels of the drugs to Almaty, as well as the purpose for which the suspect received this illegal package. A criminal case has been initiated. In accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Kazakhstan, further details cannot be disclosed in the interest of the investigation," the statement said.
Earlier, the National Security Committee intercepted a regional drug supply channel from the southern regions of Kazakhstan to Astana.
