Funds allocated to finance ethnic media in Kazakhstan has grown more than four times for the last 6 years. This was announced today by President Nazarbayev at the XVII session of the Assembly of People, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Funds allocated to finance ethnic media have been increased more than 4 times since 2005, with state support to ethnic theatres growing almost 30% to reach $ 3.5 million”, Nazarbayev said. Languages of 22 ethnic groups are taught as a separate subject at 108 schools. 88 schools teach their students in their respective mother tongue – Uzbek, Tajik, Uighur, Ukrainian. 33 schools in different regions teach subjects in three languages equally, President informed. According to him, the government’s support to ethnic culture centers last year alone stood at $ 685 000. Kazakhstan is recognized for its endeavors to secure inter-ethnic and interfaith peace and accord. Representatives of over 130 live peacefully in Kazakhstan. Their highest forum is the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, created in 1995, which has become an effective tool of civil society and protects interests of all the ethnic groups, ensuring rights and freedoms of all citizens regardless of their ethnic origin and religion.
