Storm warning issued across Kazakhstan

Tengrinews.kz – Forecasters have warned residents of northern Kazakhstan about frost on May 18, while strong winds and a high fire hazard are expected in the south, citing Kazhydromet.

Turkestan Region – short-term rain and thunderstorms are expected in mountainous areas during the day. A dust storm is forecast in the north of the region. Northeasterly wind in the west, north, mountainous and foothill areas of the region will reach 15–20 m/s, with gusts of 23 m/s. A high fire hazard remains in the west and north of the region. Mangystau Region – rain, thunderstorms, hail and squalls are expected, with occasional heavy rain in the west and center of the region. Fog is forecast in the west and center. Southerly and southwesterly wind will reach 15–20 m/s at night in the north of the region. A high fire hazard remains in the northeast of the region. In Aktau, rain and thunderstorms are expected, with occasional heavy rain at night. Fog is also forecast.

Aktobe Region – rain and thunderstorms are expected in the south of the region during the day. Dust storms are forecast in the south and center during the day. Easterly and northeasterly wind will gust to 15–20 m/s at night in the north, south and center of the region, and to 15–20 m/s during the day, occasionally reaching 23–28 m/s in the north, south and center. A high fire hazard is expected in the east, while an extreme fire hazard remains in the south. In Aktobe, easterly and northeasterly wind gusts of 15–20 m/s are expected, occasionally reaching 23 m/s during the day.

Pavlodar Region – fog is expected at night and in the morning in the north and east of the region. Frost down to -2°C is expected at night in the north and east. A high fire hazard remains in the west, south and east of the region, while an extreme fire hazard is expected in the east. A high fire hazard remains in Pavlodar.

Atyrau Region – rain and thunderstorms are expected in the west, south and east of the region in the morning and afternoon. Dust storms are forecast in the north, east and south during the day. Akmola Region – northeasterly and easterly wind is expected, with gusts of 15–20 m/s in the west and south of the region. A high fire hazard remains in the north, center and south.

Northeasterly wind will reach 15–20 m/s in the southwest, northeast and mountainous areas, with gusts of 23–28 m/s. A high fire hazard remains in the west of the region. Zhetysu Region – light rain and thunderstorms are expected in mountainous areas during the day. Northeasterly wind will gust to 15–20 m/s in the east and center, occasionally reaching 25 m/s. An extreme fire hazard remains in the southeast of the region. In Taldykorgan, northeasterly wind gusts of 15–20 m/s are expected during the day.

Kostanay Region – northeasterly and easterly wind is expected in the south of the region at 15–20 m/s.

West Kazakhstan Region – light rain and thunderstorms are expected in the south of the region. Dust storms are forecast in the west, south and east during the day.
