Tengrinews.kz – Officers of the Drug Crime Counteraction Unit of the Karaganda Region Police Department carried out a large-scale special operation in the Sortirovka settlement of Karaganda city.
This was reported by the press service of the department.
It is explained that during the operational activities, two local residents aged between 28 and 30 were identified and detained on suspicion of running an underground laboratory for the production of synthetic drugs.
“As a result of a search in a rented house, police discovered and seized more than one ton of precursors and over 52 kilograms of the finished narcotic substance ‘alpha-PVP’ (commonly known as ‘speed’),” the press release states.
In addition, they seized equipment used for producing psychotropic substances — scales, mixers, dryers, vacuum sealers, containers and other items used in the illegal activity.
It is noted that the operation prevented around 173,000 doses of synthetic drugs from entering the black market.
“At the same time, we managed to stop the involvement of new participants in criminal activities, including potential courier–stashers from among the civilian population,” said Galymzhan Bekbulatov, head of the Drug Crime Counteraction Department of the Karaganda Region Police.
According to preliminary information, the suspects rented a house to set up the laboratory and produced psychotropic substances under the instructions of a curator. They received payment for their ‘work’ in cryptocurrency.
A criminal case has been opened.
Both suspects have been placed in a temporary detention facility. A pre-trial investigation is underway.
It is noted that the special operation was carried out with the assistance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
