Tengrinews.kz – The Almaty Department of Emergency Situations has warned residents and visitors about a scheduled test of the public alert system.

According to the department, a test launch of Mass Alert will take place today, June 24, at 11:00 a.m. in the Muztau microdistrict of Medeu district.

“The event will be conducted as scheduled to verify the technical readiness of the alert system and practice the procedure for informing the public in the event of an emergency,” the department said.

The Emergency Situations Department explained that the system provides for notifications to be sent to mobile phones.

Mass Alert can send emergency notifications both to all subscribers within a mobile operator’s network coverage area and to users located in specific geographical areas. It remains operational even when the network is under heavy load.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations previously noted that Mass Alert operates using mobile network operators’ infrastructure and depends on the technical capabilities of their equipment. Notification delivery speed is determined by several factors, including the distance to base stations and the current network load.

Rescuers urged residents not to worry and said the test was being conducted as part of a scheduled procedure.
