Traffic congestion is expected to worsen today in Almaty, with taxi prices already rising due to the weather conditions. Morning and evening rush hours are usually difficult even in good weather, so residents are advised to plan their trips in advance and allow extra travel time.
City services at work
According to the city administration, snow began falling around 8:00 p.m. on November 4. That night, 918 special vehicles and 2,550 road workers were deployed to clear the streets. De-icing materials are being spread on main roads, bridges, interchanges, slopes, sidewalks, and bus stops.

Officials emphasized that all city utilities are operating in enhanced mode.
Emergency services warning
The Almaty Department of Emergency Situations (DES) urged residents and visitors to exercise caution:
“Visitors and tourists are strongly advised to refrain from hiking in the mountains. Do not delay returning home until late — worsening weather may make it difficult to find your way back,” the department said in a statement.
Rescuers also advised:
- not to park cars under trees,
- avoid standing under poorly secured structures that could collapse,
- pedestrians should be especially careful on the roads.
Weather for the coming days
Snowfall continues in Almaty, with temperatures around +3°C.
November 5: Cloudy, precipitation at times heavy (rain turning to snow). Possible fog and ice. Temperatures day and night between +1°C and +3°C, with further cooling during the day.
November 6: Partly cloudy, snow expected in the first half of the night, fog, icy roads. Northeastern wind 2–7 m/s. Temperatures –5°C to –7°C at night, 0°C to +2°C during the day.
