Tengrinews.kz – Sirens sounded across Kazakhstan on the morning of 25 February: what happened.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, nationwide drills to prepare for the flood season, “Koktem-2026”, have started in Kazakhstan. During the exercise, the readiness of the public warning system — all available siren-and-voice devices and electric sirens in the regions of the country — was tested. Residents of Kazakhstan were asked to remain calm and not to panic.

Earlier, the Almaty Department for Emergency Situations reported that, as part of the drills, preventive measures would be carried out in various districts of the city to clear riverbeds and the irrigation (aryk) network. It is noted that the current situation regarding possible flood-related developments is under control.

It should be recalled that in July last year sirens also sounded in Almaty. At that time, it was reported that the city’s warning system was being tested as part of the nationwide “Zher-2025” drills. Residents of Almaty also received a notification about an earthquake drill on their smartphones.
