Tengrinews.kz – Seven people were convicted of terrorist crimes in Kazakhstan in July, citing the National Security Committee (NSC).
According to the agency, five Kazakh citizens in the Almaty, Zhambyl, and West Kazakhstan regions, as well as in Almaty and Astana, were sentenced to prison terms ranging from four to eight years for promoting terrorism and attempting to travel to conflict zones abroad.
In Turkestan, a local resident was sentenced to eight years in prison for participating in the activities of a terrorist organization abroad. He was detained in a foreign country and deported to Kazakhstan.
In addition, a supporter of radical ideology serving a sentence in a correctional facility in the Almaty region was given an additional nine years in prison for attempted murder and promoting terrorism.
