According to the Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, in 2009-2010 Kazakhstan spent $ 260 million to combat drugs trafficking. In 2004-2008, the figure only stood at $ 29 million. In 2010, a total of 28.5 tons of drugs were confiscated, including 323 kg of heroin. 8 800 drugs-related crimes were revealed. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an intergovernmental mutual-security organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
