Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Education has announced the end date for the 2025 school year. This time, everything remains unchanged, and the last bell will ring on May 25.
"The fourth quarter in Kazakhstan’s schools will run from April 1 to May 25. The duration will be 8 academic weeks. On May 25, results will be summarized, and the 2024/2025 school year will conclude," the ministry said.
The last bell in schools was moved to June 1 in 2023. The initiative from the ministry faced widespread criticism and was later canceled. But not permanently.
The ministry believes the idea is correct but promised to reconsider it, discuss it with the public, and return to it later.
Earlier, Tengrinews.kz discussed the issue with Nurmukhammed Dossybaev, a member of the Public Council at the Ministry of Education. He said that the failure was not in the idea itself but in its implementation process. According to him, the biggest opponents of this idea were the educators themselves, who sabotaged the process.
"Teachers were supposed to work an additional two weeks, almost for free. They are used to working on a contract system: they come, work their hours, and receive their salary for those hours. But here, two additional weeks were added... Of course, this was against their interests.
It is important to understand the motives: why teachers are interested in finishing the school year quickly. And the first reason is simple and obvious—they don't want to work more while receiving the same salary. Therefore, the initiative to extend the school year can be revisited if there is a budget reserve," he explained.
At that time, the ministry also informed us that the issue of extending the school year would be discussed after 2025, and "any decision will be made taking into account the expert community."
Previously, the Ministry of Healthcare approved an updated order regulating nutrition standards in healthcare and educational institutions.
