Tengrinews.kz - The deputies of Kazakhstan’s Mazhilis have accepted for consideration a draft law concerning the ratification of an agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Russia on the construction of coal-fired heat and power plants in the cities of Kokshetau, Semey, and Ust-Kamenogorsk.
As explained by Mazhilis deputy Yedil Zhanbyrshin, the agreement aims to foster cooperation between the governments of Kazakhstan and Russia on the implementation of the coal-fired power plants project in Kokshetau, Semey, and Ust-Kamenogorsk.
"The agreement outlines efforts for the design, manufacturing, supply of equipment, construction, and commissioning of new heat and power plants, as well as a mechanism for preferential financing through the provision of a Russian state expert credit to Kazakhstan," Zhanbyrshin said during a plenary session of the Mazhilis.
The Mazhilis Committee on Ecology and Natural Resources, headed by Zhanbyrshin, will prepare a conclusion on the bill. Deputies voted to proceed with the consideration of the document.
Earlier, Kazakhstan commenced official negotiations with shortlisted potential suppliers of nuclear power plant technology.
