Tengrinews.kz – Russia will build a main gas pipeline to supply fuel to the northern and northeastern regions of Kazakhstan.
This was stated in a decree issued by the Russian government on February 18.
The document specifies that the pipeline's capacity will be 10 billion cubic meters, while the capacity of the compressor stations will be 50 MW.
In July 2024, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, Almassadam Satkaliyev, stated that the government was considering two options for gasification of the northern and eastern regions: extending the "Saryarka" main gas pipeline or constructing a pipeline from Russia.
In 2021, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that fully supplying gas to the northern part of the country, particularly Akmola and North Kazakhstan regions, required special attention. Gasification could provide a significant boost to industrial development in these regions, making them more attractive for business and living.
"This is a matter of national importance," the President stressed at the time.
