Tengrinews.kz – Unusually bright orange-colored water has been captured on video in eastern Kazakhstan, according to KTK.
The footage sparked heated discussions on social media:
“Yes, we’ve never seen anything like this in Karaguzhikha before! Look, after the rains, the stream flowing from the Snegirikha mine has turned completely orange. It’s like we’re on another planet.”
Locals say this is the first time such a phenomenon has occurred and that it has only been observed in the upper reaches of the Karaguzhikha River. At the point where it merges with another river, the water displays two distinct colors: orange and emerald green.
Social media users suggested that the heavy rains may have stirred up clay deposits, causing the unusual coloration. Environmental authorities have also taken an interest in the situation. Specialists have traveled to the site to investigate and answer the key questions: whether pollutants may have entered the river and whether the phenomenon poses any danger.
“As part of the monitoring efforts, water samples have been taken from the river located in the Glubokoye District. Laboratory tests are currently underway. Additional information will be provided once the results are available,” said Aruzhan Alibekova, spokesperson for the East Kazakhstan Region’s Department of Ecology.
