Tengrinews.kz - A major traffic jam has formed in Astana due to the closed highway towards Karaganda; cars of residents of the village of Zhibek Zholy, located 20 kilometers from Astana, have accumulated on the road.
According to residents of Zhibek Zholy, the closure of the Astana-Karaganda highway is due to bad weather, preventing them from getting into their homes.
"Residents of Zhibek Zholy constantly face this problem. We cannot leave the city and get to work. Also, when leaving the city, we stand for hours waiting at the post. Despite the fact that there are 100 meters left to the village, drivers cannot pass. At the exit from Zhibek Zholy there is a toll terminal, there is a post there, but there is no such situation there. This only happens at the entrance. About 30 thousand people live in the village, and they cannot get into it," said a resident who contacted the editorial office.
"Look what's happening... 5 lanes. This is the road from Zhibek Zholy. Don't go into the city," says the author of the video, showing a serious traffic jam.
We contacted the press service of the police departments of Astana and Akmola region for a comment.
Meanwhile, Astana residents received a message from the rescue service.
"Astana (Zhibek Zholy checkpoint) - the highway is closed to the border of the Karaganda region. Heavy snowstorm, wind speed of 20 meters per second," the warning says.
