Tengrinews.kz - Outstanding Kazakh physicist and academician Aisultan Kalybaev has died in Almaty in his 80th year, citing 24.kz.

Kalybaev’s name is associated with significant achievements of Kazakhstan in space research. In the mid-1990s he headed the National Aerospace Agency and personally oversaw the program of two flights to the Mir orbital station by Kazakh cosmonaut Talgat Musabayev.

Aisultan Abdullovich was the author of major works in mathematics, nanotechnology and the defense industry. In total, Academician Kalybaev authored more than 100 scientific papers and 30 patents, including international ones. He was an honorary professor at many major universities around the world.

Kalybaev graduated from the Faculty of Physics of the Kazakh National University. His main specialty was celestial mechanics and the dynamics of space flight. The scientist defended his first dissertation in 1979; it was devoted to the study of the motion of the Earth’s poles. Later, in the 1980s, he worked on solving a complex scientific problem — increasing the efficiency of rocket engines, jet and other types of power plants.

Colleagues, friends, and those who personally knew and worked with the scientist came to pay their last respects to Academician Kalybaev .

“In Soviet times, many of his works had a dual purpose, including for the military-industrial complex. Therefore, these works were classified. And now, when Kazakhstan has become an independent state, he declared that he dedicates all his works to his native Kazakhstan,” said statesman and public figure Krymbek Kusherbayev.

“Aisultan had one remarkable quality — he always strove for innovation. Wherever he came, he sought out big science. He had many articles, books, and many students. He was a specialist of a very high level,” noted academician, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Tynysbek Kalmenov.

The talent of Academician Kalybaev manifested itself in many areas of applied physics. His research in the field of oil production is widely known. In particular, the scientist developed and implemented methods for increasing oil recovery from reservoirs, as well as technologies for the cold molecular assembly of petroleum products.
