Tengrinews.kz – During the fifth meeting of the Constitutional Commission, Chairman of the Kazakhstan Union of Lawyers Serik Akylbai proposed clarifying in the Constitution the provision on Kazakhstan as a secular state.
Akylbai suggested adding that the activities of religious organizations in Kazakhstan are carried out in accordance with the law and may be restricted in certain cases.
“Today’s situation shows how relevant it is to clearly enshrine the state’s position on this issue. I propose additionally stating that the activities of religious organizations may be restricted in order to protect the foundations of the constitutional system, ensure national security, safeguard public order, human rights and freedoms, public health, as well as the spiritual and moral values of society,” Serik Akylbai said.
Today the Chairman of the Republican Bar Association, Madi Myrzagaraev, proposed considering the adoption of a new Constitution of Kazakhstan. Myrzagaraev was supported by other members of the Constitutional Commission, including Deputy Speaker of the Mazhilis Daniya Yespayeva and Mazhilis deputy Aidos Sarym. Thus, a new Constitution Day may appear in Kazakhstan.
