Striped hyenas were added to the International Red Book in 2008.

Two females and one male were brought to Karaganda. The African wild dogs also arrived as a pair – one female and one male. A spacious enclosure was prepared for them in advance, and their diet was carefully studied.

During the day, they usually sleep, and at night they are active. The new residents are young and healthy, so the zoo administration is very much looking forward to offspring.

“These animals are constantly on the move. They are now exploring everything, sniffing everything – the feeder, getting used to their diet,” said the zoo’s director, Gulnar Adambekova.

These animals belong to the cat-like family of carnivores and live in the African savannas.
