Tengrinews.kz - New inhabitants have appeared in the Karaganda Zoo - families of monkeys and wallabies, according to the press service of the city akimat.

The De Brazza family of monkeys now lives in two new enclosures. This is a gift from the zoological park of the city of Chleby in the Czech Republic.

A pair of wallabies was also purchased from the Czech zoo. These are relatives of kangaroos, but smaller in size. The animals are albino, which is very rare in nature.

"There have never been such monkeys in the Karaganda Zoo. Now they live in two specially prepared enclosures. There are all sorts of shelves, ladders, swings. We built them a house, we want to make a hammock. These are omnivorous monkeys. They eat seeds, nuts, seasonal fruits, bananas, oranges. They like pumpkin and squash, which we grew in the zoo's garden. We feed them boiled meat and fish. They enjoy drinking ayran and eating cottage cheese," says zoo director Gulnara Adambekova.

De Brazza's monkeys were named after the French explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza, who described this species in 1876. The monkeys can imitate the sounds of other animals.

Earlier, CNN published an extensive piece about the Turan tigers, which were brought to Kazakhstan in September this year as part of a reintroduction program. The tigers will inhabit the Ile-Balkhash State Nature Reserve, located in the Almaty region.
