The forecast highlights a sharp contrast between the two cities, with rain and cooler temperatures expected in the capital and hot, dry weather continuing in the southern metropolis.
Weather in Astana
On August 7, Astana will see partly cloudy skies with showers and thunderstorms during the day. Meteorologists warn of possible hail and squally winds. Wind speeds are expected to reach 9–14 meters per second, with gusts up to 15–20 meters per second. Temperatures will range from +10…+12°C at night to +25…+27°C during the day.
On August 8, similar conditions will persist. Partly cloudy skies and intermittent rain and thunderstorms are expected, along with possible hail and strong winds. Fog may form at night and in the early morning. Northeastern winds will remain strong, with gusts again reaching up to 20 meters per second. Temperatures will drop slightly to +8…+10°C at night and +20…+22°C during the day.
By August 9, the rain is expected to subside. The day will be partly cloudy and mostly dry, although morning fog remains possible. Winds will shift from northeast to northwest, maintaining speeds of 9–14 meters per second, with gusts still reaching 15–20 meters per second. Temperatures will stay relatively cool: +6…+8°C at night and +21…+23°C during the day.
Weather in Almaty
In stark contrast, Almaty will enjoy dry and sunny weather over the same period.
On August 7, the city will see partly cloudy skies with no precipitation. Winds will be light, blowing from the northeast at 3–8 meters per second. Temperatures will range from +16…+18°C at night to +30…+32°C during the day.
On August 8, the weather will remain stable and dry. Winds will shift to the east, maintaining the same speed. Overnight temperatures will rise slightly to +18…+20°C, while daytime highs will reach +31…+33°C.
On August 9, conditions will remain warm and dry. Winds will come from the southwest at 3–8 meters per second. Temperatures will range from +16…+18°C at night to +32…+34°C during the day.
National forecast for August
According to Kazhydromet, the overall weather pattern in Kazakhstan for August 2025 is expected to be highly variable, with notable contrasts across regions.
The first 10 days of the month will bring warming to the northern and eastern parts of the country, while southern and western regions may experience a slight cooling trend. However, unstable weather conditions are expected to follow across the country, with hot, dry days alternating with cooler, rainy periods. Thunderstorms, hail, and even dust storms are possible.
While precipitation is expected to be within normal ranges overall, above-average rainfall is possible in the north and east of Kazakhstan.
