Tengrinews.kz — A rabies outbreak has been identified in the North Kazakhstan Region. A resident of the village of Amangeldy in the Yesil District noticed that his dog had started behaving aggressively and immediately reported it to veterinarians. Specialists who arrived at the scene collected samples for analysis and conducted testing, according to Channel Seven.
The test results confirmed the dangerous disease. However, the exact source of the infection has not yet been established. It is assumed that the animals may have been infected by wild animals.
In response, quarantine restrictions have been introduced in the settlement, including a temporary ban on the removal and sale of animals.
“Since the introduction of the restrictive measures, comprehensive disease-control measures have been carried out jointly with the Republican Anti-Epizootic Unit. These include disinfection and vaccination of animals against rabies. A total of 45 animals have already been vaccinated: 36 head of cattle, one dog, and eight cats,” said Nariman Tasbolatov, head of a department at the veterinary administration.
It is reported that since the beginning of the year, more than 200 people in the region have suffered dog bites.
As a reminder, in neighboring Russia, livestock has been mass-culled from farmers for the second month in a row. Quarantine has been introduced in some regions. According to official information, there is an outbreak of pasteurellosis and rabies among animals. Against this background, Kazakhstan has restricted meat imports from several Russian regions.
