Qatar’s Emir lands in Astana: strategic talks with President Tokayev
Astana, Tengrinews.kz - Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, has landed in Astana to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. He was welcomed at the capital's airport by Kazakhstan's Prime Minister, Olzhas Bektenov.

Astana, Tengrinews.kz - Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, has landed in Astana to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. He was welcomed at the capital's airport by Kazakhstan's Prime Minister, Olzhas Bektenov.
Qatar holds the status of a dialogue partner within the SCO, a designation formalized by a memorandum signed in Tashkent in 2022.

Last year marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Qatar. Qatar remains a significant political and economic partner for Kazakhstan within the Arab world.
By the end of 2023, bilateral trade between the two nations had increased by nearly 50 percent. Both governments are committed to achieving mutual trade volumes of $500 million as part of their strategic objectives.

Kazakhstan's President expressed his gratitude for the Emir’s personal participation in the SCO summit and Qatar's support for Kazakhstan's international initiatives.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral ties in trade and economic cooperation, cultural and humanitarian exchanges, transport and logistics, agriculture, energy, education, healthcare, and telecommunications. Special attention was given to current regional and international issues.
